FAQs

Gym health &safety questions

Straight answers on safety statements, risk assessments and how GymSafe works with Irish gyms.

Still have a question? Talk to us
01What is a safety statement, and does my gym need one?

A safety statement is the written document required under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 setting out how you manage health and safety. Every gym in Ireland with employees needs one, and it must reflect how your facility actually operates — not a generic template.

02How often should a gym risk assessment be reviewed?

At least once a year, and immediately after any significant change — new equipment, a layout change, a new class format, a serious incident or a near miss. GymSafe keeps your assessments current so they hold up to HSA scrutiny.

03Does GymSafe work with independent gyms as well as chains?

Yes. GymSafe supports single-site independent gyms, studios and multi-site operators across Ireland, with the same audit, documentation and training approach scaled to the facility.

04What happens during a GymSafe health and safety audit?

We review your gym floor, studios, plant rooms, changing areas, equipment maintenance records and staff procedures on site, then issue a prioritised action list showing what to fix first, what is a legal requirement and what is best practice.

05What is the gym owner portal?

It is a secure document library for GymSafe clients. You sign in with the login we issue and download your current safety statement, risk assessments, member forms and signage as PDFs — always the latest version, never an out-of-date copy.

06Where is GymSafe based and what areas do you cover?

GymSafe is based at Gorey Business Park, Gorey, Co. Wexford, and works with gyms and fitness facilities nationwide across Ireland. GymSafe is part of the Synergy Risk Management group.
